Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University invites students of the undergraduate educational programs to participate in the Summer School: “The Political Criteria for Accession to the EU and Europeanization”. The Summer school is organized within the Jean Monnet Module “Political Criteria for Accession to the European Union and Europeanization of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine” funded by European Commission in the framework of Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The Jean Monnet Module aims to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies, particularly on the legal-political bases of the accession process to the European Union and Europeanization of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
The Summer School will address the following possible topics:
• History of the EU enlargement – legal framework, decision-making processes, and key actors
• Copenhagen criteria (political criteria): stability of institutions guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and respect for and protection of minorities;
• Association Agreements of Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova with EU: Legal and Political Reforms;
• Sectorial Europeanisation: European Union and Public Policies in Accession Countires;
• Political Polarisation, Institutions, Election, Political Parties, and European Integration;
• Europeanization of Justice System and Rule of Law;
• Anti-Corruption Policies, Fight Against Organised Crime and Europeanization;
• Europeanisation of the Public Administration, De-oligarchisation and European Integration;
• Freedom of expression, media, Human Rights Protection and European Integration;
• Civil society and European Integration of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova;
• The Top Ten Myths About the EU, Russia’s Propaganda against European Integration;
• Case Study and Sharing Experience: Western Balkans Countries and Türkiye;
• Case Study: Europeanization of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine;
• Other related topics.
The Summer school will be held at Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi, 32/35 Rustaveli/Ninoshvili st., Batumi, Georgia. Summer school lectures will be led by: Malkhaz Nakashidze – Jean Monnet professor, Jean Monnet Chair, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Summer school lectures will be delivered by professor from Ukraine and Republic of Moldova and other countries.
The Summer school will be attended by students from the universities of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. To participate in the Summer school, a student must meet the following requirements:
• Be a bachelor’s student in law, international relations, European studies, public administration, or related study programs;
• Knowledge of English;
• Be motivated and interested in the school study program.
Interested students should submit the following documents:
• Curiculum Vitae (CV);
• Cover letter (no more than 300 words);
• English Language Certificate;

Candidates will be selected based on submitted applications and Selected candidates will be contacted no later than July 17, 2024.
The program of the Summer school includes lectures/seminars, discussions, presentations, case studies. The detailed program of the Summer school will be published later.
The organizer will provide food (lunch) for the participants, and free accommodation for the selected candidates in the university dormitory, but the travel financing is the responsibility of the participant.
After successful completing the Summer school, the participants will be awarded the Jean Monnet Summernational Certificate.
