The Department of Criminalistics was established as an autonomous unit in 1952.
The staff of the Department consists of 34 persons: 4 Professors, Doctors of Sciences – V.Yu. Shepitko, V.O. Konovalova, V.A. Zhuravel, S.F. Denysiuk; 16 assosiate professors, Candidates of Sciences – V.M. Hlibko, V.H. Hruzkova, Sh.Sh. Yaramyshian, A.L. Dudnikov, A.D. Marushev, O.Yu. Bululukov, H.O. Chornyi, V.M. Shevchuk, I.V. Borysenko, S.V. Velykanov, V.V. Bilous, M.V. Kostenko, O.V. Kurman, V.V. Semenohov, V.L. Synchuk, M.L. Tsymbal; 9 assistants, Candidates of Sciences – V.V. Nehrebtskyi, M.V. Kapustina, O.V. Funikova, O.L. Musiienko, V.I. Alieksieichuk, I.A. Kolesnyk, H.K. Avdieieva, D.V. Zatenatskyi, Ya.Ye. Myshkov; 5 assistants – V.V. Baranchuk, O.V. Synchuk, O.Yu. Herasymenko, O.M. Domashenko, V.O. Yaremchuk. The heads of the Department laboratories are I.Ye. Dudnikova, S.O. Kohut, S.H. Finnik, O.I. Poklonska; senior laboratory assistants are H.S. Kramarenko, I.O. Manzhos, L.I. Liashevska, O.Yu. Tavrin, Yu.A. Shtanhei, M.O. Halaiev; laboratory assistant is O.V. Riiaka.
Since 1996 the Department has been headed by a Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor V.Yu. Shepitko.
The following subjects are taught at the Department: Criminalistics, Law Psychology, Judicial Book-keeping, Practical Course in Criminalistics, Investigation of Crimes in Economic Activity, Psychology of Judicial Activity.
