The Department of Criminal Law №1

The Department of Criminal Law №1 is traced back to 19th century when the Department of Criminal Law and Judiciary was established in Kharkiv Imperial University in 1805.

There are 43 scіeintists at the department. Among them 5 Professors:  V.Ya. Tatsiy, V.I. Tiutiugin, Yu.V. Baulin, V.I. Borіsov,  L.M. Demіdova; 1 associate  professor, Doctor of Legal Sciences S.M. Mohonchuk; 18 associate  professors, Candidates of Legal Sciences: L.V. Dorosh, V.M. Kirichko, O.I. Perepelitsa, Yu.V. Gorodetskiy, S.V. Grіnchak, S.V. Hizimchuk,  R.S. Orlovskiy, Yu.A. Ponomarenko, V.A. Kozak, Ye.V. Shevchenko, O.E. Radutniy, O.V. Us, O.V. Kharytonova, M.H. Zaslavska, A.O. Bayda, О.V. Zaytsev, O.V. Yevdokimova, M.Ye. Since 1956 tо 1991 the head of the department wаs professor, Нero of Ukraine  V.V. Stashis. Since 1991 to 2015 the head of the department was professor, Нero of Ukraine  V.Ya.Tatsiy. Since 2015 professor V.I. Tiutiuhin is the head of the department.

The department provides teaching subjects:  1) Criminal Law of Ukraine (General and Special parts); 2) Problems of the Theory and Practice of Applying Criminal Code of Ukraine; 3) Qualification of crimes in the field of performance management and professional activities related to the provision of public services.

Department of Criminal Law № 1 has initiated and has been teaching new required and elective courses since 2016-2017 academic year:

Required courses:

1. “Theory and practice of sentencing in Criminal Law of Ukraine” for the 4-th year students of the Personnel Training Faculty for the State Penitentiary Department of Ukraine.

2. “Theory and practice of sentencing in Criminal Law of Ukraine” and “Problems of qualification of corruption and corruption-related offenses” for the 5-th year students of the Criminal Justice and Prosecutors’ Training Institute (educational program “The lawyer in criminal proceedings”).

3. “Problems of qualification of corruption and corruption-related offenses” for the 4th year students of the Criminal Justice and Prosecutors’ Training Institute (educational program “The public prosecutor in criminal proceedings”).

4. “The theory and practice of criminal legal qualification” for 5-th year students of the Criminal Justice and Prosecutors’ Training Institute (educational program “The public prosecutor in criminal proceedings”).

5. “Theory and practice of sentencing in criminal law of Ukraine” for students of the Faculty of Justice.

Elective courses:

1. Problems of the theory and practice of release from criminal liability.

2. Criminal Law issues of counteraction to organized crime.

3. Theory and practice of sentencing in Criminal Law of Ukraine.

4. Criminal Law issues in the European Court of  Human Rights practice.

5. Comparative Criminal Law.
